ABOUT

River City Revival House is a downtown Edmonton restaurant and bar that is dedicated to building a community through comforting food and a welcoming culture. Located under the iconic Starlite Room, 10030 102 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The Starlite Room is Edmonton’s oldest midrange Live Music Venue, in 2019 we celebrated the 30th anniversary of live music within our building. Since our ownership group first took over the Starlite Room in July 2017 we began to evolve the already well know culture of Edmonton’s live music scene with the addition of Temple Bar and River City Revival House. Each employee has become family and an integral part of our story. At The Starlite Room, River City Revival, ConcertWorks, Be Seen Street Team & Starlite Sessions community is everything.

During the Covid pandemic Felicia created a blog to not just share recipes, but as a way to remain social during this time of social distancing. As River City Revival House’s kitchen was not operating in full swing, her team has also decided to pitch and share their own recipes! I hope you enjoy! #CookingInACrisis #ByFelicia

Felicia has continued to blog since restrictions have lifted, and this way to pass the time and remain social has turned into a full blown passion by creating her own Travel, Food & Adventure blog!

Live self happy

“Being responsible for my own happiness is the skill I care the most about…

I believe that nobody can make you feel anything. If you tell me you are unhappy and in a crappy mood because of so and so; I will tell you that you have a choice in how you react.

Conversely just as nobody can make you unhappy then it follows that nobody else can make you happy either. Sure other people's actions often contribute to your joy but we all know some sour pusses that can find fault in even the most positive circumstances.

I used to be one of them.  I made every excuse for why I could not be happy and succeed. I had plenty, I was a teenage mom, in abusive relationships, the world just wasn't fair.  Only when I took responsibility for my own happiness did I grow into the woman I am today and a world of opportunity opened before me.

My goal is to share some of the things that I find happiness in: Travel, Food, Adventures, and some of the skills I acquired along the way in the hope that it manifests happiness for you too.'“ - by Felicia

FAQ

Q: Do I need a reservation?

A: It really depends on the night. If you are swinging in for a bite to eat and a couple cocktails prior to an event at Starlite Room we always say “reservations are encouraged” because, while we do have lots of seating, on very busy show nights our tables fill up very quickly.

Q: WHERE CAN I FIND PARKING?

A: There is a covered paid parking structure and a paid open lot directly across the street from the venue as well as a larger paid lot just past the venue on the Southside. There is also metered parking available on most of the streets in the downtown area including directly in front of the venue on 100 Avenue and on MacDonald Drive. Please be sure to read all signs carefully so you do not get a ticket.

Q: WHEN DO YOU OPEN? WHEn does your kitchen close?WHAT DOES LATE MEAN?

A: We are open 7 days a week at 5pm. On occasion we open earlier for special events, when the Starlite Room has an early door time, or when there is a scheduled VIP meet & greet. We are open until 2am on Fridays, Saturdays & long weekend Sundays, on these days our kitchen is open until 1am. Sundays through Thursdays we say “late” because our hours are event driven on these days.

Q: Is river city revival House accessible for people with mobility issues?

A: Unfortunately the River City Revival House and The Starlite Room (including Temple Bar) and does not have wheelchair access. Our near centennial building also has quite a bit of stairs which has also been an issue for people with limited mobility. If you, your friend or family member are in a wheelchair or have limited mobility issues please contact us at info@starliteroom.ca or info@revival-edmonton.com with the subject line “Mobility Issues” our friendly staff and ownership group is more than happy to accommodate any special needs, including wheelchair.

A: Minors are allowed entry until 8pm (the same rules do not apply to The Starlite Room, be sure to check the event you are attending’s information). You must be able to present a valid photo government ID for entry after 8pm and if you are consuming alcohol prior to 8pm.

HISTORY

The history of River City Revival House begins with the history of the building itself. 10030 102 Street NW began as The Old Citadel  built in Downtown Edmonton one block south of Jasper Avenue, the main artery of the city. The brick building was originally formed as a “citadel” (church or place of worship) for the Salvation Army. By 1965 it was converted into the first venue of the Citadel Theatre company, with the company taking its name from the name of the building. After the company moved to a new purpose-built theatre building on Churchill Square in 1978, the building was converted into a concert hall named The BRONX. It hosted a variety of concerts including then unknown American bands Nirvana and Green Day. In 1993 the Bronx changed to the Rev Cabaret and Lush, and in 2003 the Rev closed and was reopened as The Starlite Room in 2004.

The basement lounge where Revival resides original use was as the Salvation Army soup kitchen, feeding the belly & souls of our vibrate community. Over the years our space has wore many different hats, during the Citadel days Revival was the “Steak Loft”, a Beauty & Esthetician College, Victory Lounge, The Velvet Underground and eventually Brixx Bar & Grill.

In January 2018 we began renovations of the Brixx Bar. In May 2018 we re-opened as a restaurant/lounge River City Revival House. We chose the name River City Revival House as our way to honour the history of the space. By definition, a revival is “an improvement in the condition or strength of something.” At Revival we hope to do just that, we are actively working towards becoming a safer space for all walks of life, and will continue to work for our communities. We also thought with a name like River City Revival House, people would want to shorten it, we assumed the most people would recognize the space they are in and automatically shorten the name to “The Rev” as a nod to The Rev Cabaret, although no one has yet! Haha, it really wasn’t our brightest idea!

Revival is dedicated to building community through comforting food and a welcoming culture. We offers a wide array of different live events such as; jams, open mic night, solo artists, bands etc. These events are never ticketed and always free for the public to attend (we never have a cover charge or host ticketed events), minors are welcome until 9pm, and are open 7 days a week. River City Revival House’s entrance is located through the main double doors at the front of the building.
